南京市北京东路小学坐落南京市城中，东眺紫金山，西邻市政府，北依明城墙，地理位置优越，历史文化资源丰厚。学校前身是南京市兰家庄国民小学，创建于1947年2月。之后多次更名，1970年9月正式定名南京市北京东路小学。1978年5月，学校再次被确定为市区重点学校，1980年被江苏省教育厅确定为“江苏省首批实验小学”。

学校先后被评为“全国十佳示范学校”、“全国优秀少先队集体”、“全国首批科技教育示范基地”、教育部首批“全国现代教育技术实验学校”、“江苏省模范学校”、“江苏省文明单位”、“江苏省教科研先进集体”、“江苏省优秀少年科学院”、“南京市文明单位”等。

中央领导李长春、陈至立等多位领导曾亲临学校视察，并留下“南京市北京东路小学是我看到的全国最好的小学之一”的高度赞誉。

Nanjing East Beijing Road Primary School is located at a superior place in the city of Nanjing: to its east sits Zijin Mountain, to its west the Municipal Government, and to its north the Ming City Wall. The School also enjoys profound historical and cultural foundations. It originated from Nanjing Lanjiazhuang National Primary School which was founded in February 1947. After being renamed several times, it was finally given the official name “Nanjing East Beijing Road Primary School” in September 1970. The School was designated as a key primary school at the municipal level for the second time in May 1978, and later as an experimental primary school at both district and municipal levels. In 1980, the School was designated as the “First Batch Experimental Primary School in Jiangsu Province” by the Ministry of Education of Jiangsu Province.

The School has received many awards, including “National Top Ten Model Schools”, “Outstanding Collective for China Young Pioneers”, “National Demonstration Foundations for Science and Technology Education”, “First Batch of National Experimental School for Quality Curriculum”, “Model School in Jiangsu Province”, “Role Model of Cultural Progress in Jiangsu Province”, “Advanced Collective for Teaching and Research in Jiangsu Province”, “Outstanding Science Society for Children in Jiangsu Province” and “Role Model of Cultural Progress in Nanjing City”.

Many leaders of the Central Committee such as Li Changchun and Chen Zhili, when visiting the School, have celebrated it as“one of the best primary schools in China”.
